Man charged after fatal NT ute roll

Northern Territory Police have charged an allegedly unlicensed driver after a ute carrying nine people rolled, killing a woman.

Six people were in the tray of the unregistered ute when it rolled at about 1.30pm on Tuesday near Borroloola, on the Gulf of Carpentaria.

A 32-year-old woman died at the scene and four people, including the 46-year-old driver, were airlifted 750km to Royal Darwin Hospital.

The remaining passengers had minor injuries.

The driver has been charged with driving a motor vehicle causing death and various traffic offences, including driving unlicensed, and having an unregistered and unsafe motor vehicle.

A police spokeswoman told AAP alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the accident.

The NT road toll now stands at 10, which is the same as the same time last year.
