NT woman dies after star picket stabbing

A woman has died after being stabbed with a star picket in Katherine, and police are holding another woman in custody.

Police said the two women, who are relatives, got into an argument near O'Shea Terrace last night.

Police say the 52-year-old woman was arrested at the scene after she allegedly stabbed the 51-year-old victim with the fence post.

She was taken to Katherine Hospital but died this morning.

Members of the major crime and forensic units are travelling to Katherine from Darwin, about 350km west.
