NT minister to testify in corruption trial

Northern Territory housing minister Bess Price will be called to give evidence in the corruption trial of her former chief-of-staff later this year.

Paul Mossman faces three counts of corruptly obtaining a benefit in relation to his dealings with now-jailed travel agent Xana Kamitsis.

Kamitsis pleaded guilty last year to corruptly providing benefits in exchange for government travel contracts and lodging an invoice inflated by more than $13,000 for a trip Ms Price and a staffer took to New York in 2013.

At a pre-trial mention in Darwin's Supreme Court on Monday, prosecutor David Morters said Ms Price would testify that Mr Mossman, a longtime public servant, was responsible for organising and approving travel arrangements.

"The crown case is he was derelict in his duty and in no way engaged in any governance process, which allowed Ms Kamitsis to significantly overcharge the government for services provided," Mr Morters told the court.

But defence lawyer John Adams said there was no evidence Mr Mossman was aware Ms Kamitsis was "unilaterally" overcharging the government for travel.

"Whether they charged double, triple, ten times, half, what does it matter in respect to what Mr Mossman was doing?" Mr Adams said.

The trial is set down to begin in October.
