NT man 'shows off' his unexploded WW2 bombs around town

A Northern Territory man kept two unexploded World War II bomb in the back of his ute for a few days, showing them off around town after finding them in a warplane wreck.

Damian Lumsden, 44, found the live explosives on the shore of Milingimbi Island in June last year, the NT News reports.

Mr Lumsden was so thrilled with the find he took the bombs into town to show them off.

“I went out to show a few people and they were like ‘that’s a bomb’,” he said.

“Then they saw the pin was still in it and they were like ‘oh wow, it’s live’.”

He probably didn’t make the smartest of moves when he sent a txt to his boss boasting of the find.

“I sent my boss a photo of it and he went off his head and rang up the police straightaway and got the bomb squad.”

The Australian Defence Force put an end to Mr Lumsden’s fun, detonating the old explosives in a gravel pit.
