NT escapee extradited from NSW, charged

A young prison escapee from the Northern Territory who was on the run for three weeks before being caught in NSW has been extradited and charged.
Jermaine Austral, a suspect in a violent carjacking at Aileron in early December, escaped from an Alice Springs jail on December 30.
He fled to NSW in a stolen car and was arrested in Broken Hill on January 11.

Austral, 20, was extradited to Alice Springs on Friday and has been charged with escaping lawful custody, aggravated robbery, two counts of assault with intent to steal, aggravated unlawful use of a motor-vehicle and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
He was remanded in custody to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on Monday.
