NT croc attack survivor gives thumbs up

A cheerful Northern Territory man has managed to give the thumbs up despite being attacked by a crocodile and suffering major blood loss.

The 54-year-old man fought off the two metre saltie in a remote indigenous community on Tuesday afternoon, but was still in good spirits before being airlifted to Darwin on a CareFlight chopper.

He'd been hunting in a waterhole near the Palumpa community in the Daly River region when he was bitten multiple times by the predator.

The man was treated for wounds to the chest and arm at Palumpa medical clinic, about 230km southwest of Darwin, before being flown to Royal Darwin Hospital around 6.40pm.

"CareFlight's doctor and nurse provided further treatment and ongoing care in the helicopter," a spokesperson said.

He lost a significant amount of blood but remains in a stable condition.
