The Country Liberals' candidate for the vast Northern Territory seat of Lingiari Tina MacFarlane has conceded defeat and won't run again.

Ms MacFarlane took on long-standing Labor MP Warren Snowdon twice, in 2013 and again on Saturday, but was defeated both times, while Mr Snowdon was re-elected for the 11th time and enhanced his margin with a 6.46 per cent swing.

"Of course I concede defeat, the numbers are too big even without postal votes yet counted," Ms MacFarlane told ABC local radio on Monday.

Lingiari covers the vast majority of the Northern Territory, including Katherine and Alice Springs.

Ms MacFarlane said the CLP NT government's scandals "of course has had an effect" on her campaign, along with Labor's successful Medicare scare campaign and her own failure to properly engage on social media.

She said it had been a long four years of campaigning since 2012.

"I definitely will not be running again," she said.
