LGBTIQ DEFINITIONS:

LESBIAN - a person who identifies as female and is attracted to others who identify as female

GAY - A person identifying as male, attracted to those who identify as male

BISEXUAL - A person attracted to others of the same gender, and those of different genders.

TRANS - An overall term used to indicate that a person's gender identity is different to the gender they were assigned at birth. Can be used for transgender, transsexual, transitioning, transman and transwoman

INTERSEX - People born with atypical sex characteristics

QUEER - sometimes used people to refer to the entire LGBTI community, or an alternative to lesbian, gay, bisexual, etc

SISTERGIRLS - Aboriginal transgender women, assigned male at birth, who have a distinct cultural identity and often take on female roles within the community, including looking after children and family.

BROTHERBOYS - Indigenous transgender people with a male spirit, whose bodies were considered female at birth.
