Guilty plea over fatal Darwin hit-and-run

A 21-year-old man has pleaded guilty to killing a pedestrian in a drunken hit-and-run in Darwin on New Year's Eve.

Angus Auton was driving more than 140 km/h when he hit the 37-year-old male victim, who was thrown more than 60m and died.

Auton, who admitted he had never held a licence, had been drinking alcohol and smoking cannabis before the fatal collision.

Prosecutor Mary Chalmers said he then fled the scene, dumped the car and went clubbing with his mates.

Auton, who has more than 100 prior offences committed in other jurisdictions, wept in the dock at the NT Supreme Court when he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

He will be sentenced on November 30.
