Fireworks injuries after Territory Day

Eight people have turned up to hospitals with fireworks-related injuries following Territory Day in the Top End, including two men needing surgery.

Territorians can buy and let off fireworks legally during the celebrations, held in honour of the NT attaining self-government in 1978.

One person sought help at Gove hospital in northeast Arnhem Land and seven attended Royal Darwin Hospital.

Two men aged 33 and 58 were admitted with finger wounds requiring surgery.

Hospital admissions may rise as people realise the extent of their injury, a health department spokeswoman told AAP on Saturday.

Anyone with a deep burn, a burn larger than a postage stamp or an eye injury should seek medical assistance.

There were 24 Territory Day-related injuries last year across the NT.
