Don Dale resident 'stable' after emergency

An inmate at the Don Dale Youth Detention Centre who was flown interstate following a medical emergency is "expected to make a full recovery".

The young person, whose gender and age have not been disclosed, is in a stable condition after being flown interstate on Saturday night for medical treatment, Territory Families said in a statement on Sunday.

Territory Families Acting Chief Executive Officer Jeanette Kerr said the nature of the emergency will not be disclosed to protect the young person's privacy.

"We wish this young person a full and speedy recovery," Ms Kerr said.

"I am proud of the Territory Families staff who responded, and I would like to praise those medical professionals who responded to this emergency."

A Territory Families support person travelled with the young person, who is on remand, and will be remaining with them during the treatment.

The Northern Territory government also flew the inmate's family to be with them as they recover.
