NT records 75 new COVID-19 cases as PCR test dumped for interstate arrivals

The Northern Territory government has changed its entry requirements for interstate travellers as 75 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in the territory.

NT Chief Minister Michael Gunner said 24 people were in hospital with the virus in the territory.

Mr Gunner has announced the government has scrapped the requirement for interstate arrivals to produce a negative PCR test result prior to arriving in the territory due to supply issues and testing wait times in other states and territories.

He said arrivals to the territory would be given a rapid antigen test, with results to be filed online within two hours.

Mr Gunner advised people to stop trying to get PCR tests and rapid antigen tests to travel to the territory.

"Stop," he said.

"We will sort it out when you get here."

The rapid antigen tests kits will be available at the airport and at collection points on roads in the territory.

Mr Gunner said it was too early to know whether the territory's mask mandate had been effective.

There are more than 90 exposure sites on the government's website.

Mr Gunner said it was "more important than ever" that people used QR codes to check in at venues.
