Body found after Katherine bridge fall

Police have found the body of a man believed to have fallen off the Katherine Bridge.

The 52-year-old man's fall from the bridge at about 10.15pm on Monday was witnessed by his partner.

Police say his body was located in the Katherine River just after dawn on Wednesday, about 400m downstream from where he was last seen.

Police and other emergency response groups had been searching extensively on foot, as well as by boat and helicopter since Monday night.

It is not yet known what caused the man's fall.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
