A woman has been arrested after Northern Territory police found 101 bags of cannabis hidden in an iced coffee container.

A drug dog sniffed out the stash at Katherine Airport on Monday morning, police said.

A 35-year-old woman has been charged with possession and supply of a trafficable quantity of cannabis and possessing a drug implement.

Police said each deal bag weighed half a gram, and would have been sold in a remote community for $100 each.

"Effectively, this has saved $10,000 being taken out of the community," Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Ian Kennon said in a statement.

A growing number of people are "going to extraordinary lengths to make their profit" by driving almost 350km from Darwin to Katherine to catch a flight to remote communities in order to smuggle drugs, he said.

He said drug trafficking is a serious problem in remote communities not just for health reasons but because of the cost of contraband, with some families possibly going without essential supplies in order to pay for drugs.

The woman has been bailed to appear in the Alyangula Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
