A young woman is in a serious condition after being flung from a convertible while skylarking along a road near the NSW-Victoria border.

Local police say the 20-year-old woman who fell from the car was one of two passengers "inappropriately seated" in the back with her feet up on the seat, when the vehicle, driven by a teenage girl, turned a corner in an Albury suburb on Monday afternoon.

The 20-year-old was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Albury Base hospital in a serious condition.
