Family of stabbed Sydney woman sobs as killer cousin handed 11 years in jail

A Sydney woman who stabbed her unarmed 21-year-old cousin to death in an "impulsive act of violence" has been sentenced to a maximum of 11 years.

Katherine Abdallah will spend at least eight years and three months in jail for the manslaughter of Suzie Sarkis.

Justice Christine Adamson was in tears as she extended her "personal sympathies" to the Sarkis family.

The ruling was met with tears from the Sarkis family.

She found Abdallah used words and violence to dominate flatmate Sarkis.

In sentencing, the court was told an unarmed Sarkis posed no physical threat to Abdallah, who was older and stronger, and rejected the defence that Sarkis threatened to kill Abdallah before the stabbing.
