Woman rescued from Bondi apartment fire

A woman has been rescued from her windowsill by a fireman as flames raged in the back of a Bondi apartment block.

Twenty-five people were evacuated from the Campbell Parade block of flats when the blaze broke out in the early hours of Monday, but the young woman had to be carried down a ladder by a fireman because she was too frightened to jump from the second-storey window, Superintendent Wayne Phillips of the NSW Fire & Rescue said.

"He's got her in his arm and sort of put her under his arm like carrying a footy type style and climbed down the stairs," he told AAP on Monday.

The pair were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation but the fireman is now back home, Supt Phillips said.
