A woman's body has been recovered from the charred remains of a home that burned down on the NSW South Coast.

A 67-year-old man was pulled alive from the Tura Beach home by police officers in the early hours of Christmas, but they were unable to find his partner in time.

The man, who was found on the floor of the home, 10km north of Merimbula, was taken to South East Regional Hospital suffering smoke inhalation.

Fire fighters were able to bring the fire under control, with an early morning search uncovering a body believed to be that of the 61-year-old woman.

A crime scene has been established and a report will be prepared for the coroner, while authorities work to determine the cause of the fire.
