Woman killed in NSW as car hits pole

A elderly woman has been killed in NSW after the car she was a passenger in smashed into a pole near Newcastle.

The 73-year-old died in hospital after the crash early on Wednesday afternoon on Hillsborough Road at Warners Bay.

The driver, a man in his 70s, has been taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
