Woman charged after coughing on NSW cop

A woman accused of spitting at a fast-food restaurant employee allegedly claimed she had COVID-19 and coughed at a police officer when she was arrested in Sydney's southwest.

Kelly Hogan, 51, shattered a glass door at the restaurant in an Eagle Vale shopping centre and spat at an 18-year-old employee when her bank card failed while attempting to pay for her order on Wednesday, NSW Police said on Thursday.

Hogan was arrested and while in custody allegedly claimed she had coronavirus and coughed in the face of a male senior constable.

She was charged with not complying with a direction regarding spitting or coughing during the COVID-19 crisis, common assault and destroying property.

Hogan's matter was briefly mentioned at Campbelltown Local Court on Thursday. She did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

She's due back at the same court on May 18.
