A woman accused of repeatedly punching a 15-year-old girl in the face in a racist attack on a Sydney train has been arrested.

The 34-year-old woman was arrested at Mount Druitt police station and issued with a future court attendance notice for common assault, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Police said the teenager and two friends boarded a train at Blacktown Railway Station on Tuesday afternoon.

A woman boarded the same carriage with a group at Parramatta and became involved in an argument with the 15-year-old after accusing the girl of making a racist comment.

Police have been told that the woman grabbed the teenager, pulled her hair and punched her in the face several times while shouting racial abuse, before getting off the train at Lidcombe.

The teenager wasn't seriously injured in the attack.

The 34-year-old has been released on bail and is due to face Burwood Local Court on July 28.
