Woman admits lighting NSW fire

A woman accused of igniting rubbish in her backyard in hot weather during a total fire ban has pleaded guilty over a blaze which destroyed homes in northern NSW.

Natasha Spiller, 40, pleaded guilty in Casino Local Court on Wednesday to intentionally causing a fire and being reckless as to its spread on February 13.

She also is charged with setting fire during a total fire ban.

Police previously alleged a woman had set fire to rubbish located in a large steel container in her backyard at Tabulam.

The fire was allegedly left unattended and spread to bushland behind her home.

When she discovered the fire had spread, she rang Triple Zero and unsuccessfully attempted to extinguish the flames with a backyard hose, police said at the time.

Spiller's case has been listed for mention at Casino on April 3.
