DEATHS

* More than 97,783 greyhounds were born over the last 12 years in NSW

* Between 48,800 and 68,400 of those dogs have been killed for being "uncompetitive"

* This equates to between 50 to 70 per cent of greyhounds being killed in NSW

* 74 per cent to 96 per cent of greyhounds are put down before the age of 42 months

DOGS

* 40 per cent of puppies born will never race

* Only 0.5 per cent of greyhounds born were rehomed between 2010-13, according to the Working Dogs Association

* Almost 2,300 dogs were born in 2015, with 5.5 per cent expected to be rehomed

* About 17,500 greyhound pups are born in Australia each year, with NSW having the biggest number - 8000 in 2014

* More than 22 per cent of dogs are estimated to suffer an injury while racing

* Almost five per cent suffer major or catastrophic injuries

INDUSTRY

* 10 to 20 per cent of NSW trainers linked to live baiting

* Australia has 3800 active greyhound breeders

* Animals used in live baiting: rabbits, possums, piglets

* More than $1 billion in wagers laid on greyhound racing in 2014

* Performance enhancing drugs including amphetamines, steroids and caffeine were found to have been given to some greyhounds

* Just under one per cent of dogs tested registered positive to drugs, more than five times the rate of thoroughbred horse racing.
