Sydney media personality Glenn Wheeler has woken from a coma after almost a month in hospital.

Wheeler, who works for the Seven Network and 2GB, was left with bleeding on the brain and a severed leg artery after being hit by a van while riding a motor scooter in southern Sydney on January 31.

He was airlifted to St George Hospital in Kogarah after the accident and placed in an induced coma.

Last weekend Wheeler woke from his coma.

"He is in the very early and delicate stages of resting his brain and other injuries," his family said in a statement released on Thursday.

"He continues to show signs that he's with us and at times we feel he hasn't lost his sense of humour."

Wheeler will receive visitors when his recovery progresses further, the family said.
