What we talked about on Facebook in 2015

War, death and leadership spills were the topics that consumed Australian minds this year, according to Facebook.

The social networking company has released lists of the most talked about topics of 2015 based on its monthly analyses of its 14 million Australian members.

Director of policy for Facebook Australia Mia Garlick said 2015 was all about the serious issues.

"This is the most prevalent politics has been in a non-election year," Ms Garlick said.

"We've also seen global crises capture Australians' attention."

The top five most talked about topics were Tony Abbott, Malcolm Turnbull and the leadership spill, the Anzac Day centenary, the Bali Nine executions and the Syrian civil war and refugee crisis.

Australians still had an appetite for the lighter things in life, with music megastars Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift also in the top 15.

In the top 10 check-in destinations, Melbourne beat Sydney this year with the Crown Casino and the MCG.
