Northern NSW beaches closed after a shark was spotted close to the coast could reopen on Monday morning.

Angels beach, near Ballina, as well as Shelly beach, Lighthouse beach and Angel's Flat Rock were closed on Sunday following the sighting of a large shark, believed to have been attracted to the area by schools of baitfish.

The closures came a day after a Tasmanian man was killed by a shark while diving for scallops with his daughter.
