Venomous snake gets head stuck in beer can

Snake, rattle and roll.

That was the scene presented to staff at the Australian Reptile Park when a red-bellied black snake arrived at their zoo with its head caught in a beer can.

The 1.5m venomous snake was found on the weekend by a former park volunteer in Wyong on the NSW Central Coast.

In a video posted on manager Tim Faulkner's Facebook page, the snake can be seen thrashing around as it tries to free itself.

Snake handlers at the zoo extracted the snake from its alcoholic adventure by cutting the tin around its neck.

"The red-bellied black snake would have curiously slithered through the opening of the littered tin drinking can looking for food and - given its scales only run in one direction - when trying to back out the scales would have prevented it from release," Faulkner said.

The snake was released back into the wild on Tuesday without injury.
