Van Ryn jailing 'win for community': NSW Attorney-General

NSW Attorney-General Brad Hazzard says a decision to revoke the bail of former Bega Cheese boss and child sex offender Maurice Van Ryn is a "win for the community".

There was an immediate backlash to last month's decision to give Van Ryn bail after the NSW businessman pleaded guilty to a number of child sex offences.

NSW Treasurer and Bega MP Andrew Constance raised the issue with Mr Hazzard, who called on the Director of Public Prosecutions to review Van Ryn's bail.

"I was concerned, the local MP Andrew Constance was concerned," Mr Hazzard said outside Silverwater Correctional Centre in Sydney's west on Wednesday.

"From time to time, the community's view might be a little different from a judge's decision."

Mr Hazzard says Wednesday's decision to put Van Ryn behind bars shows the judicial system is working.

"It's clearly a win for the community," he said.

Van Ryn has been committed for sentence at Bega District Court on February 2.
