Rescue workers were forced to dig two people out - brick by brick - after their car slammed into a house, forcing it to collapse, in Sydney’s north west today.

The Hyundai i30 crashed into the Dalmar Place house in Carlingford at around 2.15pm.

Emergency workers then began the painstaking process of digging through to the trapped pair of elderly women.

It took more than 20 firefighters, along with police and paramedics, more than an hour to free the pair.

Crash investigators are this evening trying to work out exactly what happened.

Locals say they are amazed anyone survived the crash.

“I think they were very lucky to get out alive, actually,” one neighbor said.
