Two men have been chased down by police and charged after they allegedly rammed into an ATM during a robbery in Sydney's west.

Police say the men, aged 28 and 30, smashed through a wall in a 4WD at a Meadowbank shopping plaza about 3am on Thursday.

They allegedly damaged an ATM but fled the scene after unsuccessfully trying to steal the cash.

A stolen van was discovered in a nearby street and police arrested the men a short time later in Fairfield East and Merrylands.

They will face Parramatta Local Court on Friday charged with aggravated break enter with intent (to steal) in company.

During the investigation, police executed search warrants at homes in Fairfield East and Granville, and allegedly discovered five vehicles suspected to be stolen or in the process of being rebirthed.
