New P-plater and friend die in NSW crash

Tori Earl did not get even a day to enjoy her new status as a P-plate driver.

She and her best friend Kendall Burke, 19, died in a head-on crash on Thursday afternoon. The girls were killed after their car collided with a semi-trailer at Belford on the New England Highway in the NSW Hunter Region.

The tragedy has left the community reeling and comes after two girls, 18 and 16, were killed in a crash at nearby Singleton earlier this month.

Heidi Rose posted on Facebook a text message she had sent to Kendall after the news of her death.

"It can't be true come home please Kendall," she wrote.

"I'm sorry I was a mean sister I'm sorry we where (sic) fighting and I'm sorry I couldn't say my last good bye to you."

Tori's brother, Garry Earl, told Fairfax Media his sister had been so proud to get her licence.

"It was the happiest day of her life," he said.

"She was beautiful and strong, kind-hearted. She loved her family so much."

Two men were also killed on Friday night when the cars they were driving were involved in a head-on crash at Lake Macquarie.
