Two people have been charged over a baseball-bat bashing that left a man with permanent brain damage.

The 33-year-old man was assaulted at Woodward Park in Liverpool, in Sydney's west, early on May 10, after a group of males approached him and a woman, police say.

It's alleged the man was struck in the head with the bat, then kicked multiple times before the group ran off.

He suffered a fractured skull and permanent brain damage.

Two males, a 20-year-old from Liverpool and a 17-year-old from Busby, have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, while the 20-year-old also was charged with another offence.

The 17-year-old was given conditional bail to appear in a children's court on November 17, while the 20-year-old has been granted bail to appear in Liverpool Court on November 18.
