Two charged over NSW police car crash

Two men have been charged after a stolen BMW crashed into a police car while officers were investigating a series of Sydney robberies.

The men, aged 20 and 25, were taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital under police guard after the crash in Petersham on Tuesday night.

Tactical Operations Unit police were in the area investigating a series of robberies at licensed premises across Sydney's inner-west since January.

The 20-year-old from Marrickville was charged with robbery and vehicle theft offences.

He is expected to face Newtown Local Court on Friday, while a bedside hearing is expected for the other man.

The 25-year-old has been charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon, driving a car taken without the consent of the owner and driving with an expired licence.

Investigations into the robberies are ongoing.
