Truck to be winched from NSW motorway

A truck crash overnight has caused traffic queues on a busy Sydney to Newcastle motorway.

Police say the B-Double was travelling north along the M1 Pacific Highway at 11.25pm on Wednesday when it ran over an embankment, sending diesel fuel spilling onto the roadway.

The driver was not injured.

The spill has been contained but traffic was moving slowly on Thursday morning, and motorists have been asked to avoid the area near Killingworth as crews continue mopping up through the day.

One of two northbound lanes will be closed from 10am on Thursday and a full closure will operate from 7pm so that salvage crews can remove the semi-trailer, a Transport Management Centre spokesman told AAP.
