Sydney terror raid detainee fined $500 for weapon offences

A Sydney man arrested during the nation's biggest anti-terrorism raids has been fined for keeping a Taser and bullets.

Ahmad Azaddin Rahmany was arrested last week after police raided his Merrylands home in the city's west as part of a pre-dawn operation across Sydney.

He was charged over unauthorised ammunition and weapon possession.

The 24-year-old pleaded guilty in Fairfield Local Court today and was fined $500.

He was also placed on a two-year good behaviour bond.

As part of Rahmany's bail conditions he was banned from contacting a long list of people, including Mohammad Ali Baryalei, the former Kings Cross bouncer identified as the most senior Australian member of Islamic State.

Rahmany was also not allowed to contact Hamdi Alqudsi, who is accused of helping send Australians to Syria to fight in the civil war.

Rahmany was one of several people detained after police raided several suburbs in Sydney's west.

Omarjan Azari, 22, has been arrested and charged with acting in preparation for a terrorist attack.
