A 60-year-old man from western Sydney has been charged with weapons offences by counter-terrorism police.

Officers arrested the man in Sefton on Thursday morning and charged him with breaching a weapons prohibition order served in January 2016.

A ballistic vest was earlier seized from the man's home in November and a flick knife in September, police say.

The 60-year-old, who recently returned to Australia from an overseas trip, was conditionally bailed to face Bankstown Local Court on February 8 on weapons use and possession offences.
