* Investigates persons suspected of domestic acts of terrorism, foreign incursions into Syria and Iraq, and funding terrorist organisations

* Ongoing police operation focuses on group of about 20 young men who police allege are committed to carrying out a terrorist attack in Australia

RAIDS:

DECEMBER 23, 2015

- 24-year-old man arrested in Merrylands and charged with making a document likely to facilitate a terrorist attack

- 20-year-old arrested in Bankstown and charged with conspiracy to do an act in preparation to commit a terrorist act

- Sydney's Woolloomooloo naval base allegedly listed as potential target

- Police say it's not a new threat

DECEMBER 10, 2015

- Five charged with conspiracy to conduct an act in preparation for a terrorist act; three were already in custody and are associates of people connected to the murder of Sydney police accountant Curtis Cheng in October 2015

- 15-year-old from Georges Hall, 20-year-old Ibrahim Ghazzawy arrested at their homes

- Police say the plot may have targeted an AFP or police building

SEPTEMBER 18, 2014:

- Fifteen arrested in largest counter-terrorism raids in Australian history across Sydney and southeast Queensland

- 11 people charged as part of group allegedly sympathetic to Islamic State, including Omarjan Azari who was allegedly called by IS recruiter Mohammad Ali Baryalei and asked to kill a random member of the public.
