Tenth NSW man nabbed in green-slip fraud

A tenth person has been caught up in a $10 million Sydney car insurance fraud investigation.

A 30-year-old man from Bankstown was charged by police on Tuesday over an alleged car crash at Lakemba in March 2015 where he submitted a fraudulent compulsory third party insurance claim of close to $700,000, police say.

He was charged with fraud and is due to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday.

The arrest was conducted as part of Strike Force Ravens, set up last August to investigate syndicates rorting the compulsory third-party insurance scheme following recommendations of the CTP Task Force.

Sydney crime syndicates involved in car insurance fraud are driving up green slip prices for NSW motorists, the state government said, who is working with the State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) and police to target those who exaggerate claims and stage accidents to get insurance payouts.

To date, Strike Force Raven investigators have arrested 10 people and laid more than 80 charges in relation to a combined fraud of almost $10 million.
