Teen charged with hitting police, pursuit

A teenager has been charged after he drove at NSW police officers and then led them on a chase into Canberra.

Police had been making inquiries about a stolen car at a home in Jerrabomberra, Queanbeyan, about 1.45am on Friday morning when they allege the 19-year-old drove a Mercedes-Benz out of the garage.

He rammed a Toyota that was parked in the driveway and then ignored police demands to stop, accelerating away and hitting an officer's leg. He then rammed a police car and kept driving.

Police gave chase, following the Merceds-Benz into the ACT where the damaged vehicle came to a halt.

Three occupants of the vehicle fled, but the 19-year-old driver and two male passengers, aged 27 and 25, were arrested.

The male driver was extradited to Queanbeyan Police Station where he was charged with using a weapon to avoid apprehension; assaulting police occasioning actual bodily harm; and police pursuit (Skye's Law).

He was refused bail to appear at Queanbeyan Local Court on Saturday.

The two men were charged by ACT police.
