Teen charged after NSW scooter assault

A 16-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly hitting another teenage boy in the head with a metal scooter in Wollongong.

The injured boy, also 16, was taken to Wollongong hospital in a critical condition after he was attacked in a laneway in Albion Park on Sunday afternoon.

His condition has since improved to serious but stable a hospital spokeswoman said Monday.

Police arrested the 16-year-old at his home on Sunday evening and charged him with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail and will appear in a children's court on Monday, while a 14-year-old boy has been dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
