Teary finish to corporal's 200km NSW hike
An Australian Air Force corporal has arrived at Sydney's Lindt Cafe after a 200km trek to raise awareness about Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Corporal Andrew Summers left his base in Williamtown, north of Newcastle, on Monday and has since been marching 40km per day, in a journey aimed to help all sufferers of PTSD including the Sydney siege survivors.
Arriving in Martin Place on Friday Morning, Corp Summers couldn't hold back the tears as he greeted fellow sufferers of PTSD.
"These people have faced a lot of trauma," he said of the Sydney siege survivors.
Since returning from duty in Afghanistan and Iraq he had struggled with PTSD for eight years but it worsened following last year's siege, spurring his journey to the site of the tragedy.
"The thing with PTSD is it is just so hard to cry out for help because you just don't want to burden anyone."
