Sydney woman shot in police confrontation

Police have shot a woman during a confrontation in Sydney's west.

Officers were called to the house at Picton after reports a woman was armed with a weapon on Saturday night.

After a confrontation with police, she was shot in the abdomen.

The 54-year-old woman is in Liverpool Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Investigators overseen by the police professional standards command will investigate the shooting.
