Sydney woman's terrorism case must proceed

A Sydney woman accused of supporting overseas terrorism must be ready for committal or arraignment when she appears in court next week, a magistrate says.

A push by Fatima Elomar's solicitor Muhammad Tehseldar to have her case adjourned for another three weeks was rejected at Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday.

Describing it as "unacceptable", Magistrate Lisa Stapleton said the matter must proceed on some basis when it returns to court in a week's time.

Magistrate Stapleton said Elomar's matter had been mentioned seven times since her first appearance in May last year.

Elomar, who was excused from appearing, was ordered to attend on February 3.

"She must be ready for committal or arraignment," Magistrate Stapleton said.

It comes after she was stopped at Sydney Airport on May 3 when she tried to board an international flight with her children.

Elomar is the wife of Mohamed Elomar, who is fighting with Islamic State and who has previously posted pictures online of himself holding the severed heads of Syrian government soldiers.

She has been charged with supporting incursions into a foreign state with the intention of engaging in hostile activities.
