Sydney Trains officer 'assaulted teen'

A Sydney Trains employee has been suspended after he was charged with indecently assaulting a teenage girl and impersonating a police officer.

The 43-year-old man was working at Chatswood Station, on Sydney's lower north shore, on Sunday when he saw the girl leave without swiping her Opal card.

Police said he had his employment ID card visible at the time, but allegedly told the 16-year-old he was an undercover police officer and began to lead her to Chatswood Police Station.

It's alleged he assaulted the girl on the way but fled the scene when she started to cry.

On Friday, detectives charged the man with indecent assault and impersonating a police officer and Sydney Trains said his employment had been suspended.

"Sydney Trains holds its staff to the highest standards and code of conduct," a spokeswoman said in a statement.

The man was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear in Hornsby Local Court on April 19.

The man's suspension was pending further investigation and the outcome of the court case, Sydney Trains added.
