Three high-school boys have been arrested at their school after allegedly ripping a seat off a Sydney train and chucking it onto the tracks.

Police say one of the 15-year-olds ripped the passenger seat off a train heading from Central to Petersham last week, before handing it to a friend who threw it onto the tracks.

The friend is also alleged to have trespassed by entering the rear guard's compartment.

The next morning the boys were allegedly involved in another incident when they went into the guard's compartment, police say.

Police visited the students' school in Lewisham where three boys were identified and charged with malicious damage and trespass.

The trio will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
