A Sydney man who allegedly tried to stab a man to death during a road rage incident four years ago has been arrested and charged.

Police say the fight unfolded when the 23-year-old victim, who was the passenger in a car travelling in the city's southwest on January 18, 2012, began arguing with the people inside a nearby Subaru Forrester.

The fight escalated when the 4WD allegedly blocked the Beverly Hills road, causing the other car to stop.

The young man was then set upon and stabbed several times by three men inside the Subaru, police said.

Officers arrested and charged one of the men, a 24-year-old from Chester Hill, and he was refused bail on an attempted murder charge at Bankstown Local Court on Thursday.
