Sydney man gets 33 years for brutal murder

A Sydney man who sexually abused and brutally murdered a teenager in a vacant house will spend most of his life in jail for the "unspeakable violence" he inflicted upon his victim.

Aymen Terkmani, 24, was found guilty in August of killing Mahmoud Hrouk in May 2015 at an unoccupied Fairfield East home.

NSW Supreme Court Justice Lucy McCallum on Friday sentenced Terkmani to a maximum of 45 years in prison with a non-parole period of 33 years.

The shocking degree of violence suggested an ice-fuelled rage, she said, but it remains unclear what provoked Terkmani'a sustained attack.

During the murder, Hrouk was beaten with a rolling pin and toaster beyond recognition.

Justice McCallum backdated his sentence to the day of the jury's guilty verdict this year, meaning he will be eligible for parole in August 2050. He will be 57 years old.
