Syd man found tied up after police chase

A man found bound with business ties concocted a story about being assaulted after members of the public complained about him driving 90km/h over the limit on a Sydney road, police allege.

Disqualified driver Peter Tawfik, 36, is accused of driving at 140km/h on a road in Glenhaven, after not stopping for police on Friday morning.

It's alleged cars were parked on both sides of the road at the time and a mechanic was working on one of the vehicles.

The Parramatta Local Court on Saturday heard that the man, who was allegedly on ice at the time of the offences, was seen in a neighbour's backyard before his father found him bound with "business ties and gaffer tape" in the upstairs of their home.

Tawfik told officers he'd been assaulted by two men but later said he'd made up the story, it is alleged.

In applying for bail Tawfik's lawyer Elias Tabchouri said his client denied making admissions about the assault allegations.

He also said police had provided no description of the man driving the car, which had number plates reading INSYNC, and someone else could have been behind the wheel.

Tawfik, who was on bail at the time of the offences, faces five charges, including police pursuit and fabricating a representation resulting in an investigation, relating to Friday's events.

Mr Tabchouri told the court his client was a victim of the ice "scourge" and an outpatient at two hospitals.

He submitted his rehabilitation could not be properly facilitated in an overcrowded jail.

But magistrate Bernard Kennedy said he could not impose conditions sufficient enough to ensure the public's protection from Tawfik, who had a history of traffic offences.

Tawfik was denied bail to return to court next week.
