A man who allegedly records videos while indecently exposing himself on public transport has been caught in the act, NSW police say.

A 28-year-old woman was travelling on a train between Strathfield and Burwood station in late March when a man allegedly sat down next to her, exposed himself and committed an act of indecency.

Police arrested a 52-year-old man in relation to the incident at Parramatta Railway Station on Thursday night, seizing his mobile phone after a short struggle during which he allegedly exposed himself.

It is also alleged approximately 1400 images of child abuse material and additional recordings of his indecent acts were found by officers during an initial examination of the phone.

The man was charged with twice committing an act of indecency and possessing child abuse material.

He was bailed and is due to appear in Parramatta Local Court on June 15.
