Sydney man charged with child grooming

A Sydney man has been charged after allegedly grooming a child for sex using an online gaming website.

Police say the 23-year-old man, from Werrington Downs in Sydney's west, became involved in a conversation with a girl from Queensland last month, which continued via text messages the following day.

The man then allegedly attempted to groom the child, which is when police were alerted and an investigation began - leading to the man being charged with grooming a person under the age of 16 for sexual activity and sending indecent material.

He appeared in Penrith Local Court on Wednesday and was refused bail, and is scheduled to appear before the same court on Friday.
